Electric Power Steering
Just wondering about this and why no one has done this conversion or consider it?
From what I understand, these new systems are much better now using all OE type equipment, speed sensitive with assistance adjustment via a potentiometer. Unit installs under the dash and appears our cars have the room. Saw one on a Lotus Esprit that fit nicely.
Can use the same steering rack, settings etc...while getting rid of the pump, lines, fluid. Any thoughts?

Will and I discussed it a few months ago. I will let him chime in on pros and cons

Still trying to figure out one that works properly. Most of the aftermarket system just feel mushy
The steering rack needs changed to a manual rack

Been talking with the manufacturer, we can use the original hydraulic rack, just loop the lines!

Could remove the PS pump and switch to an electric hydraulic pump.
Toyota MR2s use EHPS, a lot of Honda and GM guys use those pumps to remove the belt driven PS pump.

It's the next mod I'm doing.

Because purists view electric PS as the devil incarnate. I've always wondered why a car as light as the Knob has to have power steering. The shifter itself takes as much force to get in to 5th/reverse as the lack of PS in a parking lot!

Ok, my curiosity is peaked.
We have power steering because we have sooo much caster.
What would the advantage of electric be over the existing hydraulic?
I am all for improvement, but this (in my case) would be fixing something that is not broken/problematic

Well, the benefit would be reducing parasitic loss for the belt driven components, as well as having a quicker responding rack. You also have less weight too, since you get rid of the hydraulic components, coolers, lines, etc.
Downside, journalists have said that early electric steering racks feel meh. Having come from a S2000 which uses an electric rack, I think it felt great.

I need to go to either manual or electric steering. From what I have read is that the rack stays the same and the electric motor feeds oil to the rack like our current system. Manual is obvious. Any updates on this?

I switched over to electric power steering and it is amazing.
Much better feedback
It was pretty easy other than having to take most of the front end apart to find a place to fit it.
Here is what i used https://www.ultimatepowersteering.co...ring-pump-kit/
A little pricey but it works
I should just make a kit my self there is not much to it
