Thread: Control Arms

    Default Control Arms

Good morning all, I have not been good at using this forum, although I am a five year owner of an M400. Talk about a love-hate relationship lol. Best track car I have ever driven but no end of problems starting with a blown engine at Daytona, a (very costly) decision to replace the unit with a Honda K24, twice replaced Quaife sequential transmission, burnt out alternators, etc.etc.

Anyway, last time out at Sebring and finally the engine and trannny were working fine when...the front left control arm sheared (both sides)! Sebring is a rough old track, but still seemed rather extreme. So, long story short, does anyone know where to source control arms (adjustable would be even better)?

I also have a whole bunch of parts from the old engine set up, including said blown engine and its original transmission, A/C etc. I can post pictures if this might be of interest.

    Cheers,
    Richard

Care to elaborate on what happened? Curious as I have a quaife as well and only ran into dog gears getting worn.

Apologies @Driven, for the delay, I keep forgetting to look at this forum. First time the casing on the Quaife literally cracked open, looked like a faulty casting and Quaife agreed because they sent me a new one. Second time was a stripped 4th gear within the transmission. Since this was only my second or third session on the track after replacement I was less than impressed. Sent the box back to the UK where they opened it up and confirmed. They could not understand it, but we agreed on a partial cost split, and it has now been reinstalled. Waiting on the control arms new suspension etc, so only got the car back a couple of days ago, fingers crossed for the next track day...

Glad to hear you had no real issues, but what did you do with the dog gears when they were worn? replace them yourself, or....?

ouch, seems like you've had some bad luck with your box. Are you using a flatshifter (ie. geartronics) at all or just lifting and grabbing the next gear?

For worn dogs, I just ordered some new dogs and installed it myself. The transmission is much easier to take apart and repair than the standard Noble MMT6 trans. Just far more expensive, since each dog is around $250.

It is a geartronics shifter to a haltech. Haven't been able to take it on the track yet (and about to leave for Europe for six weeks, so won't be doing that until October), and forward gears now working fine, but reverse very problematic. Oftentimes does not work, or sounds like a non-syncro "crashing" so back into Neutral, then try again. Sometimes it works but most often not .

Love the car when it runs (and it is a demon on the track) but reliable it is not!

Reverse engagement could partially be due to the shifter cable not aligned properly. You would also notice that downshifting sometimes isn't as a clean engagement.
But, it could also just be the reverse gear is a bit worn and doesn't slide in as smoothly.

Occasionally my reverse will grind, but it works 9 times out of 10 with grinding...

And likewise, not super reliable -- but not sure what kind of power you're making with yours.
